Gut microbiota for orthopedic patients preoperatively

Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) are pre-onset stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which causes disability in elderly people worldwide. Perioperative intestinal microbial dysbiosis may accelerate the progression of AD. However, the intestinal microbiota (IM) of prodromal AD (pAD:SCD and aMCI) patients have not been investigated preoperatively. In this study, we aimed at identifying preoperative differences in IM and intestinal barrier function between pAD patients and the normal neurocognition patients(NC).
