资源简介:
The study investigated the relationship between perceived parental support, intrinsic life aspirations, and resilience among young adults aged 18-23 years in the Indian context. Resilience, recognized as a critical factor for psychological well-being during emerging adulthood, was examined in relation to parental warmth, autonomy support, and involvement. The study also explored the mediating role of intrinsic life aspirations—comprising personal growth, relationships, and community contribution—while analyzing gender differences in perceptions of maternal and paternal support. A cross-sectional correlational research design was employed, with data collected from a sample of young adults recruited from educational institutions across India. Standardized tools were used for data collection, including the Perception of Parents Scale (POPS) to measure perceived parental support, the Aspiration Index to assess intrinsic life aspirations, and the Bharathiar University Resilience Scale to evaluate resilience levels. Statistical analyses included correlation, regression, mediation analysis, and ANCOVA to address the research questions. Results indicated that cumulative parental support was significantly associated with higher resilience, emphasizing the importance of warmth, autonomy, and involvement from both parents in fostering adaptive capabilities. Intrinsic life aspirations partially mediated this relationship, with aspirations related to community contribution and relationships showing a significant mediating effect. However, personal growth was not a significant predictor of resilience, suggesting that personal growth may develop as a result of resilience rather than directly contributing to it. Gender differences were observed in the perception of parental support. Males exhibited higher resilience when supported by their mothers, while females demonstrated greater resilience with paternal support. These findings highlight the nuanced role of gender in the parent-child dynamic and its implications for psychological well-being. The study concluded that fostering maternal and paternal support, alongside nurturing intrinsic aspirations, can significantly enhance resilience and overall well-being in young adults. The results have practical implications for designing family-centered interventions and promoting intrinsic aspirations, such as relationships and community contribution, to strengthen resilience. Additionally, the findings challenge the direct role of personal growth in resilience, suggesting it may emerge as a result of resilience rather than serving as a precursor. This research rooted in positive psychology provides valuable insights for psychological interventions, policy development, and educational practices aimed at promoting the flourishing of young adults in the unique socio-cultural context of India.
