LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: Western Downs Regional Council

LOCATION: The resource is located at 759 Old Chinchilla Road, near the township of Guluguba and approximately 20 km southeast of Wandoan and 50 km north of Miles (see KRA Map 114).

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE TYPE: Quarry Rock

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE DESCRIPTION: The resource is part of a basalt plug. The depth of weathering of the basalt varies across the site with the thickness of overburden ranging from distinctly to slightly weathered up to 9 metres thick. Surrounding the plug are metasediments made up of sandstone, siltstone and mudstone which are suitable for general low grade specification material.

SIGNIFICANCE: The basalt resource is large and will supply material to the Western Downs Regional Council Area including major projects such as the proposed Wandoan Coal project for up to 40 years. The resource also has particular physical properties that are scarce in the region.

SEPARATION AREA: A maximum separation distance of 1000 metres has been applied around the resource/processing area boundary as blasting is considered necessary to access the resource and the surrounding Rural zoned areas are relatively flat lying..

TRANSPORT ROUTE: Material can be transported along Old Chinchilla Road and on to Guluguba Downfall Creek Road connecting to the Leichhardt Highway near Guluguba to the west.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Most of the resource/processing and some parts of the separation area are covered by Strategic Cropping Land Trigger Mapping under the Strategic Cropping Land Act 2011 administered by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines. This indicates the location of potential SCL and further on-ground assessment against the SCL criteria is required to confirm whether the area is or is not an SCL.
