American University Men of China (1936)

The following dataset is based on American University Club of Shanghai. <em>American University Men in China</em>. Shanghai: Comacrib Press, 1936. It contains the list of the 418 members - both Chinese and non Chinese - of the American University Club of China (Shanghai) based on the above directory that the club published in 1936. Established around 1902, the American University Club (AUC) was one of the earliest and largest organizations of American university alumni in pre-1949 China. The attached file comprises several tabs: <em>Members</em>: List of members with their national origin, education, membership status and current employer (or main affiliation). Each row corresponds to a unique academic curriculum. Each individual can have several rows, as many as the number of curricula he enrolled. <em>Officers, Memoriam</em>: List of officers (officers) and past members (memoriam) <em>Fields</em>: Description of variables <em>Meta</em>_: Description of meta-categories devised for analytical purposes (academic degrees, US states/regions, employment sector)
