Four additional pieces of groundstone were recovered for washes during the Ghwair 1999-
2000 excavation season. In addition, a control sample and a fragment of plaster floor also were
submitted for analysis. Pollen, phytolith, and starch analyses were conducted on these samples
to identify evidence of food processing activity and local vegetation. Due to the difficulties in
recovering a phytolith record from the last set of groundstone examined from Ghwair, the extraction
process was changed for this study, resulting in recovery of sufficient phytoliths for analysis.
