This dataset provides the complete open-source hardware and software documentation for a Modular Low-Cost Computed Tomography (CT) Platform. Built primarily with LEGO® bricks and off-the-shelf electronic components, this system is designed for medical physics and biomedical engineering instruction, allowing students to explore the entire tomography pipeline from data acquisition to image reconstruction.
The repository is organized into three main modules:
Hardware: Includes CAD Inventor® source files (.IPT) and universal export formats (STEP, STL) for the custom adapters. A comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) and a LEGO®-specific parts guide are provided to facilitate replication.
Firmware: Contains the C++ source code (.ino) for position feedback reading and high-impedance signal acquisition using the Encoder.h library. and ADC.
Software & Data: Features an interactive Jupyter Notebook divided into two parts: (1) Serial communication and live projection acquisition, and (2) Offline image reconstruction using three different filtering techniques.
To ensure immediate usability, this record includes sample projection data (bear_29_04_26.csv) and a reconstructed image (bear_29_04_26.png) of a gummy bear phantom. These results demonstrate the platform's ability to perform sinogram generation and image reconstruction via Filtered Back Projection (FBP) or Simultaneous Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (SART).
