Nosocomial infection with vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) is a public health concern because of the difficulty of treatment. To treat VRE infection, an oxazolidinone "linezolid" has been used as a last resort against VRE. However, in 2015, optrA, which contributes to oxazolidinone and phenicol resistance, was identified on the plasmid in Enterococci of human and animal origin in China. Since then, Enterococci with optrA-positive plasmids have been reported worldwide. In this study, Enterococcus faecalis carrying optrA was isolated from a patient in Hiroshima, Japan, and was analyzed using whole genome sequencing.
