Comparison of fluoroquinolone resistant Staphylococcus aureus SA-1199B with it's parental strain SA-1199

The Staphylococcus aureus strain SA-1199B is an isogenic variant of strain SA-1199 with a known mutation in the promoter of the gene encoding the MFS-type efflux pump NorA. This mutation is thought to contribute to increased ciprofloxacin resistance and indeed this pair of strains are often utilised to investigate the mechanisms of fluoroquinolone resistance as well as the function of NorA in S. aureus. Here we decided to compare the genomes of both SA-1199 and SA-1199B to understand if there were any additional mutations which may need to be taken into account when using these strains.
