European Super League awareness in Europe 2021

First announced in April 2021, the European Super League was a controversial planned soccer competition to be contested among a select group of 20 clubs from across the European domestic leagues. Many fans, pundits, and players spoke out against the proposed league, stating that the new setup would be against the competitive nature of the current leagues and competitions and that it would have been a "closed shop" for some of Europe's richest clubs. During an April 2021 survey, around 88 percent of respondents in the United Kingdom stated that they had heard about the proposed league, while this figure fell to 64 percent among respondents in France.
