NRS-20775 | Registers of gazetted annual leases [Maitland Land Board Office]

These registers record annual leases proclaimed in the New South Wales Government Gazette. They refer to land districts controlled by the Maitland Land Board.Annual leases were established under the Crown Lands Act of 1884 (48Vic. No.18). An annual lease for unoccupied land, not reserved, could be obtained for grazing purposes upon application to the Local Crown Land Agent. (1) These registers relate to land districts controlled by the Maitland District Land Board and are arranged numerically and chronologically. Once an application for an annual lease had been approved and the notice published in the NSW Government Gazette, the lease information was recorded in the registers. The register records information including the name and address of applicant or transferee, date of transfer and date of registration at Land Department, date of commencement of lease, date of gazette, parish, county, date of forfeiture, annual rent, date and amount of payments made, fines on late payments, and any refunds authorised. Each entry also records the date on which the gazette was printed.Department of Lands circular 12/1935 states that by 31 December 1935 bound registers should be replaced by a card system.
