Gene database of Escherichia coli ATCC 11775

Escherichia coli is a rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium that
could subsist on a variety of substrates. A commensal in the human
gastrointestinal tract, some strains of the bacterium are also opportunistic
pathogens. But, most importantly, E. coli is a well-studied microorganism
that have found uses in many areas of biotechnology. This work reports the gene
database of E. coli ATCC 11775. Using the annotated genome downloaded
from GenBank, this work uses an in-house MATLAB parsing software to read,
extract and build a gene database of the bacterium comprising gene identifier,
gene function, and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of the bacterium.
The gene database should find use in a variety of genome editing and molecular
cloning workflows seeking to uncover additional mysteries of this biotechnology
workhorse.
