Optimization of abdominal CT based on a model of total risk minimization by putting radiation risk in perspective with imaging benefit

Population of one million cases simulating a liver cancer scenario. The demographic information was taken from the USA 2019 Census Population Estimates by Age, Sex, Race, and Hispanic Origin. The patient population was simulated in eight different cohorts with genders of male and female, and races/ethnicities of white, Black, Hispanic, and Asian. The total population sample size allowed the inclusion of a significant number of cases in each group. For each simulated patient, the age was randomly sampled from a uniform distribution, which spanned the age range of the individual demographic groups. Radiation risk, clinical risk, and total imaging procedure risk were also calculated.
