资源简介:
Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) is found at a broad range of depths between 70 and 2,500m, on the southern shelves and slopes around the sub-Antarctic islands of the Southern Ocean. Outside of the Southern Ocean, it is primarily found in the Southeast Pacific (South American continental shelf) and around Macquarie Island in the west of the Pacific Ocean sector. It is of significant commercial interest, due to being highly sought after in restaurants and high-end markers worldwide. However, it also appears to have an interesting evolutionary history, being closely related to Antarctic toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni), but appearing to have subseqently lost the ability to inhabit colder, sub-zero temperatures in the Southern Ocean, instead being found in slightly more temperate waters. This project set out to sequence, assemble and characterise the Patagonian Toothfish genome.
