Soil was sampled from three agricultural systems at Henderson, i.e. (1) conventional mouldboard ploughing with continuous maize (Zea mays L.) and crop residue removal (CP-M), (2) direct seeding with a Fitarelli jab planter (DS-M) with continuous maize and crop residue retention, and (3) direct seeding with a Fitarelli jab planter with rotation of maize/sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea L.) and crop residue retention (DS-R)
