WMS Share of protected areas in total area

The indicator describes the status of designation of protected areas in relation to the administrative area (excluding marine areas). From a functional point of view, a distinction is made into a higher protection status for (strict) nature and species protection and a lower protection statute for (general) landscape protection. The first category includes National Parks (NTP), Nature Reserves (NSG), Fauna Flora Habitat Areas (FFH) and Bird Reserves (SPA). The second category includes nature parks (NP), landscape protected areas (LSG) and biosphere reserves (BIO) outside the core zones.
