Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of gram-negative aquatic bacteria that biosynthesize magnetosomes. These nanometer-sized magneosomes are potential materials for applications in microbiology, nanotechnology and biomedicine and so on. However the formation of magnetosomes are strictly controlled by oxygen. In order to understand the mechanism of oxygen regulation of magnetosome formation and improve the production of magnetosomes, we performed the transcriptomic analysis of strain ME-1 grew under aerobic condition and microaerobic condition. Transcriptomic analysis can provide insights into oxygen regulation of magnetosome formation and give clues to genetic manipulation of ME-1 genome for improvement of magnetosome production.
