Patterns and trends in the spatial heterogeneity of land surface phenology of global forests

The dataset corresponds to the data presented in the paper “Patterns and Trends in the Spatial Heterogeneity of Land Surface Phenology of Global Forests,” published in Environmental Research Communications.Land-surface phenology, a critical indicator of terrestrial ecosystem responses to environmental changes, lacks a global-scale assessment of its spatial heterogeneity in forest phenology. We filled this gap by introducing an index derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data, to evaluate phenological diversity across global forest biomes. This work, contributing to the Essential Biodiversity Variable framework, provides insights into the functional composition of ecosystems and their climate-driven shifts observed over an 18-year period. The results of the study have been published in Girardello et al. (2024).<br>Pre-processed data, codes for reproducing paper figures in the afore-mentioned work are made publicly available here and briefly described to facilitate reproducibility and applicability.<br><b>FUNDING</b><b>The study was funded by the Exploratory Project FORBIORES of the European Commission, Joint Research Centre.</b><br>
