High-Resolution Maritime Emissions Inventory for the Gulf of Mexico (GoM-HEI) 2022

The shipping emission datasets for the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) with 8 species (BC, CH4, CO, CO2, NMVOC, NOx, PM10, and SO2) with a high spatial resolution of 0.009° × 0.009° (~1 km²) and a daily temporal resolution were established. The emissions were derived from Automatic Identification System (AIS) data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), featuring a 1-minute temporal resolution. The spatial domain covers the GoM, bounded by the coordinates: longitude -98.0539° to -80.4330° and latitude 17.4068° to 31.4648°. This high-resolution dataset allows for detailed environmental and health impact assessments of maritime transport in the region. Unit: Shipping emissions in kilograms per grid cell (kg/cell). daily_emission_per_pollutant.csv: A wide-format table containing the total daily shipping emissions aggregated for the entire Gulf of Mexico domain. Columns: Date, and total emissions for each of the 8 air pollutants and greenhouse gases in mega grams (Mg). emissions_map_per_pollutant.png: Data visualization map showing the overall spatial distribution of shipping emissions for each pollutant across the Gulf of Mexico. daily_time_series.png: Graphical time series visualization showing the temporal trends and daily variations of total shipping emissions.
