Area reserved for water

The Water Area (ERE) is a corridor bordering surface waters in which construction is prohibited. It aims not only to safeguard the natural functions of rivers and bodies of water, but also to improve flood protection. In the canton of Fribourg, ERA is associated with three geographical data: — the ERA limit: delimitation of the ERA in the strict sense (Art. 41a Waters); — the construction limit: minimum construction distance to watercourses and bodies of water; — natural width: natural width of the bed bottom, used for the delimitation of the ERA. The legal provisions regarding the prohibition of construction in the ERA are contained in the Federal Water Protection Ordinance and the Cantonal Water Act.
