Miscellaneous Papers Concerning the Removal, Care, and Study of Archeological Specimens

Most of the papers and excerpts in this book were collected during the early days of the Missouri Basin Project. In some cases publication data apparently was not written down, or was written down only in part. Many of the specimen processing methods outlined here were developed specifically for museum use and are much better suited to that than to vastly different emergency laboratory demands. For this reason they have not been used as sources for this project. In fact, the only material in this book probably directly related to our processing procedures is in the section “Care of Archeological Specimens.” Nevertheless, all such information is good background and forms a valuable supplement to that provided by the project handbook. It is too bad that there is available so little like material, either supplemental or basic, concerning record making and maintenance. This is a gap that only archeologists themselves can close.
