The purpose of this study is three-fold: 1) sequence and assemble the genome sequence of Buchnera aphidicola in the soybean aphid, A. glycines; 2) conduct a phylogenetic analysis to examine the similarity of the soybean aphid Buchnera with the Buchnera characterized in other aphid species; and 3) assess sequence variation in the Buchnera between different soybean aphid biotypes. These results will provide a foundation for assessing how the aphid microflora influences plant resistance.
