Research objectives were to obtain data that can be analyzed to better understand the dynamics of tree island vegetation in response to a multitude of factors, including changes in hydrology. The dataset contains the ‘raw data’ measurements taken at each island, within respective sample plots. The data can then be used to compare changes over time (2005-2008), project how species of tree, shrub, and herb may react to disturbances, and determine at what spatial and temporal scale hardwood hammocks are affected by hydrological changes.

objectives are: (1) monitor and characterize the current condition of tropical hardwood-dominated tree islands with significant areas of the Shark Slough; and (2) characterize relationships among the hydrologic regimes of adjacent long and short hydroperiod marshes, with respect to population dynamics of resident trees and associated plant species within selected islands.
