Description of Roniviridae adapted from ICTVdb Virion Properties Morphology Virions consist of an envelope, spikes, and a nucleocapsid. Virus capsid is surrounded by a single layer envelope. Virions are bacilliform. Virions measure 40-60 nm in diameter; 150-200 nm in length. The envelope has surface projections. Surface projections are distinctive peplomers forming a prominent fringe. The nucleocapsid is elongated coiled tubular with helical symmetry and a width of 13-18 nm. Nucleocapsids are coiled tubular structures arranged perpendicular to the ventral axis. Physicochemical and Physical Properties Virions have a buoyant density in sucrose of 1.18-1.2 g cm-3. Nucleic Acid The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear positive-sense, single-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 26235 nucleotides long. The RNA is is about 26235 nucleotides long and encodes cystein protease, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, helicase and metal ion binding domains, nucleoprotein, S glycoproteins.
