The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the conversion of dietary flavonoids, affecting the health-promoting effects in the host. The selectivity of flavonoids in stimulating restricted set of microorganisms has, however, not been systematically evaluated. In the present study, we analyzed the human gut microbiota composition after rutin treatment and we we measured rutin-related metabolites in order to study inter-individual variability in metabolism of rutin.
