Vertical atmospheric profiling by Cloud Particle Sensor sondes and radiosondes during the ice breaker Shirase cruise of the 64th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition

Meteorological observations were made in the Southern Ocean on board the R/V Shirase from December 2022 to March 2023 as a part of the 64th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE). To observe vertical atmospheric structures (e.g., temperature, relative humidity, wind speed), we conducted radiosonde and Cloud Particle Sensor (CPS) sondes observations. In addition, the CPS sondes measured the vertical structures of clouds (e.g., number, radius, and phase of cloud).
