Data and codes for Rising Global Species Loss Embodied in Oil Crop Supply Chains

This Zenodo repository provides comprehensive data and code supporting the draft "Rising Global Species Loss Embodied in Oil Crop Supply Chains" for peer review. The datasets encompass: Harmonized Global Spatial Distribution of Oil Crops (2020): Detailed maps for 19 major oil crops at a five-arcminute resolution, synthesized from FAOSTAT, SPAM 2020, CROPGRIDS, and remote sensing data. Spatially Explicit Biodiversity Impacts (2020): Potential Global Species Loss (PSLglo) associated with oil crop cultivation, calculated by combining the spatial distribution and land use intensity (LUI) of oil crops with global species loss factors. Biodiversity Impact Time Series (1995-2020): National-level PSLglo for various oil crops, derived using FAOSTAT harvested area data and 2020 impact intensities. Hybridized FABIO and REX3 MRIO Model (1995-2020): A novel multi-regional input-output framework combining the detailed agricultural and food product classifications of FABIO with the extensive non-food sector coverage and high regional resolution of REX3. 5D Supply Chain Impact Matrices: Multidimensional arrays for food and non-food final uses, enabling detailed tracking of biodiversity impacts from cultivation through intermediate processing to final consumption. Structural Decomposition Analysis (SDA) Results: Quantitative assessment of socio-economic drivers (e.g., per-capita consumption, population growth, agricultural efficiency) of changes in biodiversity impacts from 1995 to 2020. The accompanying code were also included in this repository, and will publicly available on GitHub (ecological-systems-design/oilcrop-biodiversity-impact), facilitates the replication of all important analytical steps, including oil crop distribution assimilation, biodiversity impact assessment, hybridization of MRIO tables, supply chain impact mapping, and structural decomposition analysis. These resources enable further research into the biodiversity footprints of global commodity supply chains.
