This dataset contains multimodal imaging and spectroscopic data investigating the structural forms of iron deposits in the human basal ganglia, specifically the globus pallidus. The data support findings that iron accumulation in this region comprises heterogeneous mixtures of oxides and hydroxides with variable crystallinity, which may act as reservoirs of redox-active iron contributing to oxidative stress via Fenton chemistry. The tissue samples were obtained from post-mortem human brains of six individuals with no history of neurological disease.
