Use of routine vaccinations in Germany – results from the KV vaccination survey

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is responsible for collecting, preparing and reporting nationally and internationally data on the use of protective vaccinations in the German population.The most important data source for the calculation of vaccination rates is the contract medical billing data transmitted to the RKI by the health insurance associations (KVs) in the context of the “KV Vaccine Surveillance” (KVIS). Started as a joint project with the KVs in 2004, KVIS has been legally enshrined in the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) since 2020 (§13 (5) IfSG). In addition to the annual reporting on current vaccination rates in the Epidemiological Bulletin, VacMap complements the communication of vaccination rates in Germany as an interactive dashboard and enables the reuse of the data by actors in vaccination prevention. Based on the presentation of vaccination rates by age group, over time and at regional level, deficits in the implementation of the vaccination recommendations can be identified and subsequently addressed specifically to target groups.
