Genome-scale engineering methods enable the construction of synthetic biological systems, which can serve to explore fundamental questions about evolution and improve our understanding of living systems. Using custom-made synthetic biology tools, we built through greedy accumulation of deletions of large dispensable intervals a library of 298 Bacillus subtilis strains with genome reduction of up to 1.48 Mb.
