资源简介:

This dataset contains responses from a survey of 3747 U.S. consumers across 10 categories of network-connected devices: smartphones, tablets, wearables, gaming consoles, AR/VR devices, streaming devices, security devices, connected kitchen appliances, smart TVs, and smart home equipment. Respondents were recruited via the Prolific platform; data were captured via Qaltrics, with controls preventing duplicate participation across the 10 device-specific surveys. A validation question restricted participation to household disposition decision-makers. Data quality was maintained via a 16-flag cleaning system detecting logical contradictions, attention-check failures, and implausible demographic patterns; responses triggering 3+ flags were manually reviewed. The survey queried past and intended End-of-Current-Use disposition behavior (store, resell, recycle, donate/give away, trade-in, throw away), data wiping practices, 35 attitude/knowledge prompts on 5-point bipolar Likert scales covering convenience, environmental benefit, data security, and economic considerations for each disposition option, security threat awareness, sources of information, experience with data theft, environmental attitudes, and demographics. The sample is representative of the U.S. population. Data collection was approved by the Rochester Institute of Technology IRB (protocol 02071723) and supported by NSF Secure & Trustworthy Cyberspace grant #2037535.
