The Fire Product: Investigating Fire Occurence in Northern Botswana
was part of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme Data and
Information System (IGBP-DIS) Regional Satellite Fire Data Compilation
CD-ROM.
The data base consists of burnt areas delineated on Landsat-MSS
images. The data base was put together to investigate fire occurrence
in the Chobe National Park in Northern Botswana. The study area
comprises the southern part of the Chobe National Park and the Chobe
Forest Reserve. It includes part of the Sandveld, alluvial deposits in
the old Linyanti floodplain and the northern part of the Mababe
Depression, remainder of an ancient lake. An area of 81.6 x 68.7km,
common to all satellite images and located between 18 deg 00'S and 18
deg 58'S and 23 deg 52'E and 24 deg 55'E was interpreted.
The data set consists in 12 Landsat sub-images from year 1972 to 1991
showing the fire scar pixels in each image. The image map upper left
pixel coordinate is given for each sub-image.
