The National Light Vehicle Flow (LV) and HGV (PL) Matrix consists of an estimate of the number of vehicles moving from one department to another for an average day in 2011. The source and destination flows are assessed in two directions. These flows, observed during a road survey, cover the national metropolitan territory and are based on traffic survey data collected mainly over the period 2007-2013. **Data description:** This file contains — departments of origin and destination — annual average daily traffic per vehicle/day in 2011, two directions combined detailed for light vehicles and heavy goods vehicles The flows of this matrix are based on traffic survey data collected at the roadside, usually from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on a Tuesday or Thursday in a normal week. Users are asked about their travel, in particular their municipalities of origin and destination. The survey posts are mainly located on the motorway network, the national road network and to a lesser extent on the structuring arteries of the departmental network. Flows between neighbouring departments, when estimated, do not take account of short-distance journeys using the secondary departmental network. A combination of the data was carried out to overcome redundancies on long-distance flows: a grouping of data on a calculation zoning of the matrix and the implementation of an algorithm to assess the degree of redundancy of the information, to combine the data according to the survey sample, the age of the survey and the variation in traffic between the survey year and 2011.
