" Introduction: The Engineer's Question As engineers and scientists, we craft projects every day. Yet do we truly understand what engineering means? Why do we build? What is engineering? Anything that benefits human society and its future is engineering. The Matrix This is a comprehensive, closed-loop technical matrix spanning the full spectrum of engineering — from Life Engineering to Environmental Engineering, to Social Engineering, and even to Thought Engineering. It begins with healing the environment, restoring ecological balance, mending the fabric of life itself, then extends inward to heal the ecology of human thought—and ultimately calls us all to jointly restore the ecology of our societies.A Warning on Life Engineering In the domain of Life Engineering, we have proposed certain concepts. However, we strongly urge that no one implement the proposals put forth in this domain. Treat them merely as a mode of thinking about the future. Across all other engineering domains, implementation is welcome — but please regard Life Engineering as suspended. Do not become like certain frenzied institutions, cancer centers, and research institutes today, heedless of technical warnings. The Purpose of Thought Engineering We have included Thought Engineering precisely because, as engineers and scientists, we must first understand: think carefully whether something should be done before asking whether it can be done. If any of you can answer the question we posed in the Life Engineering domain — the question we raised — then you may naturally proceed with your creations. Of course, you may choose not to listen. Provided you are willing to bear the consequences of the future. What kind of future do we want? It depends entirely on the choices each of us makes right now.In fact, engineering encompasses a far broader scope than we often realize.Shaping human thought, shaping human society, shaping our environment, and even shaping human life itself—all of these are forms of engineering. So what future do we truly desire? Let that vision guide us in choosing what kind of engineering we wish to build. The image we’ve chosen this time is still from the game Chinese Paladin 4—specifically, Liu Mengli, the young mistress of the Demon Realm, at the moment she returns a century later, as her crafted tool-body dissipates and fades away. We selected this image precisely to illustrate a truth: all tools ultimately perish—and so do all engineering endeavors. What matters most is this: before they vanish, how do we best use these tools to benefit our future—not just the present? To answer that, we must first transform our thinking, and then reshape how we approach technology itself. Why do we build? Why do we exist? What kind of future do we truly want? Only by answering these questions can we create a science and technology that is truly ours— and only then can it genuinely sustain our future development. As always, no technical details will be provided—those who want to know can download the files themselves.Whether it’s good or not is something we’ll only know through our own use.Whether it’s good or not is something we’ll only understand through our own reflection."
