1) This study describes additional remains of *Indarctos* from the Withlacoochee River 4A locality in Florida and reviews all known records of *Indarctos* from North America. Most records of *Amphimachairodus* from North America date to the Late Hemphillian (Hh3–4, ~6.5–4.5 Ma), and co-occur with another ursid, *Agriotherium*. The specimens from Withlacoochee River 4A demonstrate that *Amphimachairodus* dispersed from Asia during the Hh2 faunal stage. The distinctive morphology of *Indarctos* and the presence of *Amphimachairodus* in the Hh2 fauna indicate that environmental changes had already begun prior to the appearance of this significant faunal assemblage.
