The genome sequence and assemblies of Phormia regina will be a great additional reference to the Calliphoridae family, and will act as a strong foundation for studies in evolution, population structure, behavior and physiology of blow flies. Additionally, it will facilitate understanding the basic biological processes of lineage-specific traits and evolutionary relationships of a variety of biological pathways such as sex determination in insects.
