资源简介:
BACKGROUND Curated by multi-award wining Australian printmaker Rona Green, "Eventide" is an exchange portfolio and exhibition consisting of 31 leading Australian printmakers who each consider a period of transition, when day meets night through the exacting medium of relief printmaking. The exhibition explored relief printmaking's integral linked to the nature of contrast, with each artist employing the medium to respond to the notion of eventide as an in-between space of transformation. CONTRIBUTION "Grace feels herself shiver with the setting of the sun" draws on Maggie Stiefvater's bestselling trilogy "Shiver", "Linger"; and "Forever", in which Grace Brisbane and her fellow lycanthropes transform into the wolves of Mercy Falls as the temperature drops. The different states within the multi-layered reduction linocut process are aligned with the notions of transition and transformation that are inherent to werewolf lore, which I extended further through the incorporation of blended rolls. The work contributes to an expanding understanding of the technical and conceptual possibilities of the linocut medium, while also offering novel figurations and understandings of female lycanthropy. I was also invited to present the opening address for the exhibition, for which I presented an overview of Rona Green's contribution to fostering printmaking in Australia through her exchange portfolio projects. SIGNIFICANCE Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery is one of Australia's leading regional galleries, renowned for its exhibition program of Australian and international art, as well as its collection of contemporary Australian works on paper. The Gallery is the region's major cultural facility and is supported by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and other partners. Each of the original prints in the Eventide exhibition were gifted to the gallery and now form part of this significant collection.
