资源简介:
Tomen Y Rhodwydd motte and bailey castle near Llandegla, Denbighshire, was built by Owain Gwynedd in 1149. It was destroyed eight years later by Iorwerth Goch ap Maredudd of Powys in 1157. While on campaign in 1212 against the Welsh, King John's English forces restored the castle. It commands the approach to the Nant Y Garth pass and has recently been cleared of scrub and young trees as part of a community and volunteer project in conjunction with funding and staff input from numerous regional heritage and environmental bodies in Wales. The motte mound and semi-circular bailey enclosure would have been strongly defended by substantial timber structures with a tower on the mound and buildings inside the enclosure.
