InsectArmageddon Image Dataset

This dataset contains images and plant cover estimates that were recorded and created in the InsectArmageddon iDiv project which took place in 2018. The project aimed to investigate the consequences of the decline in invertebrate biomass on ecosystem processes in artificial grassland communities. The study used a controlled experimental approach to examine how the loss of invertebrates affects the composition and abundance of plant and animal species, as well as the overall functioning of the ecosystem.
The images in this dataset were collected by automatic cameras mounted in a height of approximately 2 meter above the vegetation in the EcoUnits of the iDiv EcoTron (https://www.idiv.de/de/forschung/plattformen-und-netzwerke/idiv-ecotron.html). The plant abundance data was manually collected by a single ecologist.
The abundance data was estimated in a logarithmic percentage scale (Schmidt-scale) and was collected for each EcoUnit in intervals of one week.
