E. coli pneumonia isolates retrieved from mechanically ventilated patients in French ICUs (ColoColi stud, ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT03303937). During a 38-month period (2012–2014), any E. coli isolate responsible for pneumonia in a mechanically ventilated patient was collected, regardless of the method of sampling (quantitative cultures of tracheal suctioning, bronchoalveolar lavage, or protected telescoping catheter). This study was approved by the ethics committee of the French Intensive Care Society (SRLF-CE 12-388).
