IBR-UGR-UMU-2025.1: A New Dataset for the Evaluation of Internet Background Radiation.

This dataset was compiled by capturing Internet Background Radiation (IBR) traffic using a network telescope located at the University of Murcia. The telescope's aperture is 256 addresses (a /24 network), and the capture period runs from 9 October 2025 at 12:31:08 to 9 November 2025 at 23:59:59.Traffic sent by the ELSA tool (https://www.ccn-cert.cni.es/es/soluciones-seguridad/elsa.html) has been filtered out, as it is not considered IBR traffic. Following this filtering process, the total volume of captured packets amounts to 68,413,603.To facilitate analysis, the traffic was divided into daily PCAP files, retaining the original content of the packets without performing any additional filtering or anonymisation. This publication is part of the NetSEA-GPT project (C-ING-300-UGR23), co-funded by the Regional Ministry of University, Research and Innovation and by the European Union under the Andalusia ERDF Programme 2021–2027. Data Privacy and Anonymization Disclaimer This dataset contains raw network telescope traffic and has not been anonymized. All captured traffic is unsolicited — it was directed at unused IP addresses that were not associated with any active host or service at the time of capture. No traffic was generated in response to any packet received. Source IP addresses present in the dataset may be spoofed and therefore may not reflect the true origin of the traffic. The dataset should not be used to attribute malicious activity to any specific individual or organization based solely on source IP addresses. Users of this dataset are responsible for ensuring that their use complies with applicable laws and regulations in their jurisdiction.
