It is derived from a UK crowdsourced research project on avian sounds that shares the name Warblr. Through this project, the authors collected over 10,000 10-second smartphone audio recordings from across the United Kingdom, with a total audio duration of approximately 28 hours. The audio covers a diverse range of locations and environments across the UK, including ambient weather noise, traffic noise, human speech, and even human imitations of bird vocalizations. This dataset directly represents real-world data collected through mobile crowdsourcing initiatives. Annotations for the Warblr dataset were performed by a network of volunteer annotators.
