Wreck of The Eagle. Northport, Michigan. Scaled model of the shallow water wreck of the fishing vessel The Eagle owned by Ed Middleton, a commercial fisherman in Northport Michigan. It was scraped for parts then scuttled. The town of Northport depended on commercial fishing in Grand Traverse Bay and the rest of Lake Michigan and at one time was home to a large system of docks and dozens of boats. After commercial fishing for income fell out of favor many of the locally built fishing vessels like this one were intentionally sunk or parted out and recycled. Many of The Eagle's more valuable parts were salvaged by the family of Ed Middleton and now rest in front of the historic fish processing shed turned guest house on his great grandson Fredrick Steffens II's property.
