Huanglongbing (HLB) is a devastating disease of citrus plants caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), which has caused huge economic losses to the global citrus industry. HLB can adversely affect the root development and health as well as root-associated microbial community structure. Roots are the primary place where plants interact with soil microorganisms, the rhizosphere microbiota has been reported to plant health as they could compete with pathogens or induce plant resistance. However, it is still unclear whether rhizosphere microorganisms play a role in the process of citrus against CLas infection.
