Municipal councils have the need to employ a considerable workforce with a wide range of occupations, skills and entitlements. It is expected that the employer will ensure that each worker receives their entitlements in terms of salary, leave, compensation for accidents and entitlements to join a superannuation scheme. This series consists of the cards and files created and maintained by the City of Essendon to ensure that employees were managed efficiently and that the interests of both employer and employee were cared for.Each file contains the former employees Salary and Leave card which gives Name, Address, Date of Birth, Marital Status, Period of Employment, Occupation and all details of fortnightly salary or wage payments including allowances and deductions and full details of Leave entitlements and usage.Other loose papers in the file consist of leave applications, documents related to applications for admission to superannuation schemes and claims in relation to Workers Compensation. Files concerned with employees who died whilst still employed contain small amounts of correspondence regarding financial entitlements for the settlement of estates.
