FQMS — Fuel quality monitoring system 2010

According to the Fuel Quality Directive, compliance with environmental quality standards for fuels must be reviewed and reported annually under the Fuel Quality Monitoring System. Since 2003, the Federal Environment Agency has carried out these quality controls in Austria. In 2010, around 8.05 million tonnes of fuel were sold in Austria, 6.23 million tonnes (r. 77 %) of which were diesel fuels. In order to verify the quality of the fuels, a total of 303 samples were taken throughout Germany at 303 petrol stations — 150 of them in winter and 153 in the summer. Diesel fuel has been tested for compliance with the ON EN 590 standard, petrol for ON EN 228 compliance. A total of 9 deviations from the defined standard parameters were detected (6 exceedances of the maximum vapour pressure, 2 of the maximum sulphur content and 1 during boiling).
