Data from: Spatial patchiness in change, recruitment, and recovery on coral reefs at Lizard Island following consecutive bleaching events

This study was based on repeatedly examining the same 349 photoquadrats around Lizard Island over a 5 year period (2016-2021). Data on benthic cover and Acropora recruitment from these photoquadrats were subsequently extracted, and these data were used to explore how the benthos responded to coral bleaching in 2016 and 2017 and where/to what extent coral cover recovered following this disturbance. This data publication includes raw data on benthic community composition at the quadrat level for broad benthic categories and specific coral genera. In addition, it includes a data file of the number of new Acropora recruits per quadrat detected form 2018 - 2021, as well as key explanatory variables that were quantified to see if they related to Acropora recruitment rates.
