In this study, magnetite-mediated Feammox system was developed to verify its application in different ammonia nitrogen loading rate COD:TN and HRT throughout 270 days. More importantly, the combination of microbiome structures and corresponding metabolic pathways showed that Feammox genera C10SB1A with up-regulated gene encoding iron respiring and ammonia oxidizing enzymes could co-exist with anammox, nitrate-dependent ferrous oxidation (NDFO) or heterotrophic denitrifying species by sharing intermediates under the involvement of specific environmental factor, confirming that Feammox could adapt to versatile micro-environment via establishing metabolic symbiosis with other nitrogen transforming routes.
