SAMNET magnetometer data: March 1989 geomagnetic storm

This dataset includes 5-second resolution ground magnetometer data from the York and Glenmore Lodge stations of the UK Sub-Auroral Magnetometer Network (SAMNET) between 12-14 March 1989. Until 31st March 2003 SAMNET was operated by the University of York. SAMNET is currently operated by the Space and Planetary Physics group, Department of Physics, Lancaster University (https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/physics/research/astrophysics/space-and-planetary-physics/). It is also part of the international SuperMAG consortium. Stations are equipped with fluxgate magnetometers which continuously record natural variations in the Earth's magnetic field. The magnetometer data contains information about the complex interactions within the coupled Solar Wind-Magnetosphere-Ionosphere system. Station locations in geographic coordinates: Glenmore: lat 57.16N, long 356.32E York: lat 53.95N, long358.95E Each station records the magnetic field in three orthogonal components: H, D and Z, these being Horizontal Magnetic Northwards, Horizontal Magnetic Eastwards and vertically downwards.
