Bioplastic products represent one of the most important eco-friendly alternatives to petrochemical plastics. Petrochemical plastics contribute substantially to the global warming and consequently leading to climate change. PHAs (Polyhydroxyalkanoates) are considered an energy and carbon reservoir that accumulate inside the bacterial cells. They are biodegradable substances easily be converted into CO2 and water within a year by a variety of microbes. The most widely studied PHAs are Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB). Therefore, this study aims to isolate a variety of microbial strains from different environmental settings in Egypt that have the potential to produce PHB and to maximize the PHB production by the most efficient strains utilizing different raw materials.
