A188 was a maize inbred line developed by Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station in 1946. It has long been used in transgenic study for its high efficiency in callus formation and regeneration. Since maize genome has been demonstrated to have extensive intra-specific variations, the lack of a reference genome limited study based on A188 genetic background. Here we used a combination of PacBio SMRT sequencing, 10x Genomics Chromium, and Illumina SGS sequencing and generated a high quality reference genome of A188.
